About Alain

Alain was born in 1968 in Den Haag, the Netherlands. In his professional career he is a healthcare psychologist, treating people who are diagnosed with severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia.

He started taking and making pictures in 2024 after being diagnosed with auto immune hepatitis. To counter some effects of the condition and the medication he started to take walks in the city of Amsterdam where he lives. To make these walks more interesting he brought his camera with him. Soon he fell in love with the art of photography.

To him taking pictures is a kind of magic, it’s a fascinating way to create a new view of his surroundings and capture that image at the same time. It helps him to see the world in a new and interesting way. He enjoys the amount of control a photographer has over an image, it is a healthy antidote against all the uncertainty and confusion of the current times. And it´s a great way to express himself.

At the moment he is studying at the Dutch Academy for Creating Images (Nederlandse Academie voor Beeldcreatie) and learing about photography.

Besides photography and his work as a psychologist Alain cares a lot about animal welfare and (climate) justice. No art on a dead planet.
